How To Install Elasticsearch on AlmaLinux 10

To install Elasticsearch on AlmaLinux 10, follow the steps below.

Step 1 : Update the system

sudo dnf update -y

Step 2 : Install Java

sudo dnf install java-25-openjdk -y

Step 3 : Check Java version

java -version

Step 4 : Import the Elasticsearch PGP key

sudo rpm --import https://artifacts.elastic.co/GPG-KEY-elasticsearch

Step 5 : Create elasticsearch.repo and add repository content

sudo tee /etc/yum.repos.d/elasticsearch.repo << 'EOF'
[elasticsearch]
name=Elasticsearch repository for 9.x packages
baseurl=https://artifacts.elastic.co/packages/9.x/yum
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=https://artifacts.elastic.co/GPG-KEY-elasticsearch
enabled=0
type=rpm-md
EOF

Step 6 : Install Elasticsearch

sudo dnf install --enablerepo=elasticsearch elasticsearch -y

Step 7 : Start Elasticsearch

sudo systemctl start elasticsearch

Step 8 : Enable Elasticsearch on boot

sudo systemctl enable elasticsearch

Step 9 : Enable Security in Elasticsearch

Open the configuration file:

sudo nano /etc/elasticsearch/elasticsearch.yml

Edit or add the following line:

xpack.security.enabled: true

Step 10 : Restart Elasticsearch

sudo systemctl restart elasticsearch

Step 11 : Check Elasticsearch status

sudo systemctl status elasticsearch

Step 12 : Reset the elastic user password

sudo /usr/share/elasticsearch/bin/elasticsearch-reset-password -u elastic

Step 13 : Verify Elasticsearch

curl -k -u elastic:password https://localhost:9200
